 Part of what makes Barrels and Branches so special is the property itself. The layout of the nursery was intended to both inspire visitors as well as to educate. The nursery is isolated into categories, the main theme emphasizing plants that do well in Southern California gardens.
San Diego County is very diverse; our customers live from the ocean to desert with a lot in between. Some have sunny dry gardens while others have shady and moist areas to work with. Barrels & Branches prides themselves in providing appropriate plant material for all of the region’s microclimates.
San Diego is a Mediterranean climate; Barrels and Branches specializes in drought-tolerant, hardy plant material. They have an extensive selection of California native plants, succulents and other drought-tolerant, Mediterranean plants to choose from. There is a plethora of beautiful perennials, shade plants, trees, shrubs, house plants, foliage plants, and grasses. If pottery, soil or fertilizers are on your list, you can find it here.
We've quickly gained a reputation for carrying a wide selection of unusual plant materials.
These include euphorbias, acacias, leptospermums, leucadendrons, and many other drought-tolerant plants. Our garden center also stocks Mediterranean, South African and Australian plants that thrive in our temperate climate. Here at our retail plant nursery in Encinitas, you’ll find the largest succulent and cactus inventory in the area.
The staff are proud of our expanding California native section. Customers have a great resource here for planning their water-wise designs.
B&B also carries perennials, annuals, tropicals, and shade-loving plants. If you’re on the hunt for a specific plant and can’t find it elsewhere, we can do our best to special order it for you.

Pots
Barrels & Branches garden center has become known for it's wide selection of pottery. They carry pottery from all over the world, as well as domestic suppliers. They carry a diverse range of metallics, drip glazes, rustic, textured and waffled pottery in an array of available colors as well as shapes. Our broad selection of pots include orchid pots, herb pots, bowls, birdbaths, urns, saucers, and pot feet. If there’s something you’re looking for that you can’t find in our large garden inventory, please ask and the garden design experts can check if it is available for special order.
B&B carries a wide variety of ceramic pots from all over the world. They can take special orders on most pots.

Barrels & Branches supports the efforts of organic gardening. This method of gardening utilizing only naturally occurring animal and/or plant material fertilizers with no use of man-made chemicals or pesticides. B&B prefers to use OMRI-certified products (those that have been reviewed against theUSDA’s National Organic Standards and have been certified by the Organic Materials Review Institute). Our E.B. Ryan Prange with Falling Waters, installed our pondless waterfall shown below. B&B staff love the sound, and the efficiency of his designs. He is available for consultation if you would like to install a waterfall, or waterfeature.

Are you looking for a unique gift, or accent? B&B has gifts for the home, office and garden. Our gift shop, and indoor plant selection is down below our cashier booth in the green house. You will pass through our indoor plant area, and continue the gift shop. Throughout the indoor plant area and garden room lies locally, and internationally collected gifts. |

B&B changes the gift shop up on a monthly basis, and inventory changes throughout the year. During the holiday season, B&B hosts gift shows, featuring local artists with a wide range of products. Invitations are sent out seasonally. Be sure to be on our mailing list.

EVENTS
 B&B has been having quite a few events at Barrels & Branches. The unique location makes for a fresh location for a meeting, party, or any event. From cooking demonstrations, to church events, B&B has the space to satisfy your needs. Our new upper tier of our deck provides spectacular views of the surrounding mountainside. The paths of the nursery are perfect meeting spaces to allow you to talk, mingle and socialize while enjoying the wonderful gardens.
